Great East Swim Outreach Events

Over 3,200 pupils from 95 Suffolk primary and junior schools participated in Great East Swim Outreach Events during June 2013. Replicating open water events, pupils were challenged to swim around circuits of pools as many times as possible in 4 minutes.

The total distance swam was a staggering 349,492 metres or 217 miles, equal to swimming the channel ten times.

Individual school events culminated in a county gala on 21st June during which 80 children from 10 Suffolk schools competed in a head-to-head distance swimming competition around shallow and deep end circuits. On hand to encourage the children and lead a masterclass was Olympic silver medallist, David Davies.

Congratulations to the winning school: Hadleigh Community Primary. 2nd place went to Brooklands Primary School and 3rd place to Holbrook Community Primary School.
