Suffolk Norse | School Swimathon

School Swim Active

In conjunction with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and Kellogg’s Swim Active, Suffolk Norse Swimming was successful in obtaining a grant to enhance its current programmes of swimming and particularly to reach out to the hardest to reach and engage those most challenged by swimming. Schools have engaged in a range of additional swimming opportunities which together have attempted to increase the number of year 6 pupils able to swim at least 25 metres and be safe when playing in, near and on water. The programmes have been wide ranging. They have included:

  • identified children have attended local after school swimming lessons in conjunction with local pool providers,
  • an Easter swimming school held at a school based pool,
  • additional opportunities for children to swim in deep water pools,
  • different programmes of swimming focused exclusively on water safety and water confidence,
  • the provision of additional swimming instructors who have undertaken specific programmes targeted at the weakest swimmers.
